Tesla opens second showroom in India, this time in Delhi’s Aerocity

New Delhi: Tesla, the iconic US-based electric vehicle giant, is quietly but confidently making its mark in India. After opening its first showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex last month, the company has now set up a massive 8,200 sqft experience centre in Worldmark 3, Aerocity, Delhi, right next to Indira Gandhi International Airport. This is Tesla’s first-ever outlet in the National Capital Region (NCR), and it’s clearly positioned to attract India’s growing tribe of luxury EV buyers.

The Lease, The Location, and The Game Plan:

Officially inaugurated on August 11, Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt Ltd has locked in a nine-year lease for this Aerocity property from Oak Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. The rent? ₹17.22 lakh per month (₹210 per sqft), with a security deposit of ₹1.03 crore. Interestingly, the store will actually start full operations on March 15, 2025, giving Tesla a 120-day fit-out period to get things just right.

The lease terms read like a carefully calculated chess move, a three-year lock-in, 15% rent hike every three years, ₹33.5 per sqft monthly maintenance, and 10 dedicated parking slots at ₹6,000 each per month. It’s not just a shop; it’s a statement of intent.

In Mumbai, Tesla’s debut came on July 15, 2025, at BKC’s Maker Maxity Mall with a smaller (but prime) 4,000 sqft showroom. And just to show they’re serious about India, Tesla has also leased a massive 51,000 sqft space at Orchid Business Park, Gurugram, for delivery and service operations, a move that quietly signals where the brand sees future demand growing.

Charging Up Delhi (Literally):

What makes the Aerocity showroom extra special is that it comes with Delhi’s very first Tesla Supercharger station, located right below the showroom. Four ultra-fast Superchargers (up to 250kW) and three slower Destination Chargers (11kW) are already live.

But Tesla’s charging ambitions don’t stop here. Additional Superchargers are to be added in Saket, Gurugram, and Noida in NCR, with Mumbai to get them soon in Lower Parel, Navi Mumbai, and Thane. Bengaluru, being an existing EV-friendly city, is also likely to figure on the Tesla Supercharger map soon.

The Car Everyone’s Talking About: Model Y

Tesla introduced the Model Y in India last month, which comes with standard-range rear-wheel drive and long-range all-wheel drive. Prices begin at ₹59.89 lakh, and the car should start shipping in September.

These units are being imported fully built from China for now.

Tesla isn’t just selling cars, it’s also rolling out after-sales support, from mobile service and remote diagnostics to a dedicated service centre and a Tesla-approved collision repair facility. In other words, they’re making sure buyers don’t just get the wow factor but also the backup they need.

If you look closely, Tesla isn’t rushing into India with a “take over the market” attitude. Instead, it’s moving with calculated patience, focusing on Delhi and Mumbai for retail, while quietly building service hubs and a strong charging backbone.

And here’s the clever bit, Tesla’s approach fits perfectly with India’s EV reality, the market is still evolving, infrastructure is still catching up, and luxury EV buyers are concentrated in metros, and by not overpromising and instead delivering step-by-step, Tesla is setting itself up for a long, steady run rather than a quick sprint.
