New Delhi: In a crucial step towards enhancing Surat Airport’s infrastructure and passenger convenience, a high-level meeting was held in Delhi today with Union Civil Aviation Minister Mr. Kinjrapu Rammohan Naidu. The discussion focused on multiple development initiatives to improve connectivity, facilities, and operational efficiency at the airport.

1. Immediate Start of Surat-Mumbai Flights
A significant outcome of the meeting was the proposal to immediately resume Surat-Mumbai flights, which will provide better connectivity for business travelers and tourists.
2. E-Visa Facility for International Passengers
Recognizing Surat’s growing global trade and tourism potential, discussions included introducing an e-visa facility to facilitate hassle-free travel for international visitors.
3. Four-Lane Main Entry Road Construction
To ensure seamless access to the airport, plans for constructing a four-lane road at the main entry point were discussed. This will significantly reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.
4. Auto Rickshaw Stand and Parking Expansion
A dedicated auto-rickshaw stand and expanded parking facilities were proposed to improve last-mile connectivity and accommodate the increasing number of passengers.
5. 24/7 Flight Operations with Enhanced ATC Staff
To enable round-the-clock operations, a key focus was on deploying additional Air Traffic Control (ATC) staff. This move will support continuous flight operations, enhancing Surat’s air connectivity.
6. Development of Open Spaces via PPP Model
The airport authorities are considering Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models to develop open spaces, ensuring efficient land utilization and improved passenger amenities.
7. Accommodation for 400+ CISF Personnel
Security infrastructure is also set to improve with plans for residential accommodation for over 400 CISF personnel, ensuring better security and operational efficiency.
8. Terminal Building Completion and LVP Technology
The remaining work on the terminal building will be expedited, while Low Visibility Procedure (LVP) technology will be implemented to ensure smooth flight operations even during foggy conditions.
9. Improved Arrival & Departure Connectivity
Plans to enhance passenger movement flow for arrivals and departures were discussed, ensuring a smoother airport experience.
10. Implementation of Digi Travel Facility
To modernize the airport experience, authorities are exploring Digi Travel solutions, which will include digital check-ins, automated baggage handling, and seamless security clearances.
