Steve Jobs gets tribute on US $1 Coin scheduled for 2026

New Delhi: The United States has recently announced something unique; they have announced that Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs will be honoured on a commemorative $1 coin as part of the 2026 American Innovation Program, celebrating his transformative impact on personal computing and technology. This should have happened because Steve Jobs has really shaped Apple in a good way, and now if any person wants to purchase a smartphone, they only suggest Apple products.

The coin depicts young Jobs sitting cross-legged against Northern California’s oak-covered rolling hills, wearing his signature turtleneck. This design was created by Elana Hagler and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, capturing Steve Jobs in the moment of reflection that symbolises how California’s landscape inspired his vision to make technology intuitive and accessible.

This coin is going to feature the inscription Make Something Wonderful, taken from the popular Steve Jobs quote, and the title of his posthumous book of his writings, released in 2023. Steve Jobs founded Apple with Steve Wozniak in 1976, releasing the Apple I that year and the influential Apple II in 1977. During his second tenure at Apple, beginning in 1997, he also oversaw the release of revolutionary products, including the iPhone, MacBook Air, and iMac.

The coins will be available for purchase at $13.25  each from the United States, with the sets of four coins costing approximately $27.50 to $30. The 2026 collection also honours Iowa’s Dr Norman Borlaug, Wisconsin’s Cray-1 supercomputer, and Minnesota’s mobile refrigeration innovation. The American Innovation coin series began in 2018 and will continue until 2032, featuring significant innovations from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five US territories. Steve Jobs died in 2011 from cancer complications and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously in 2022.
