Bengaluru, September 07: In a landmark move for India’s spacetech sector, Bengaluru-based startup Pixxel has successfully closed a $100 million Series C funding round. The investment, led by prominent venture capital firm Seraphim Space and Singapore’s state-owned investment firm Temasek, marks one of the largest capital infusions into the Indian private space sector to date.Besides this, new institutional investors like 360 ONE Asset and South Korea’s IMM Investments also participated in the funding round.
A substantial portion of the funds will be deployed towards the company’s ‘MegaPixxel’ assembly, integration and testing (AIT) state-of-the-art facility in Bengaluru. Besides this, Pixxel aims to strengthen its base in the US by establishing advanced engineering and manufacturing hubs to cater to international defence and commercial clients. This dual presence is aimed at allowing the startup to leverage India’s cost effective space engineering ecosystem while maintaining proximity to the high demand North American aerospace market.
Pixxel aims to use the $100 million fundraise to deploy its planned constellation of high resolution hyperspectral satellites. These ‘next generation’ sensors help detect minute changes in soil health, moisture levels, gas leaks and crop diseases, providing actionable insights that may not always be available to standard satellite imagery.
Before this round, Pixxel had raised $95 million from Google, Radical Ventures, Lightspeed and Blume Ventures, amongst others. The startup had closed its Series B round at $60 million in December 2024.
