Hyderabad, September 10: Sigma Advanced Systems has officially started production at its new aerospace production manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh replicating the same from its UK facility. The company managed to complete the feat in a record eight months, from breaking the ground to moving to production for the 75,000 sq ft facility.
Sigma Advanced Systems aims to reach production capacity of about 1,00,000 machining hours for the first phase, reaching 3,00,000 hours eventually. The dedicated aerospace manufacturing facility aims to complement its UK operations, adding further manufacturing capacity for aerospace critical processes. With this, the company aims to have almost 70% of its manufacturing processes in India, with an aim to scale and support future acquisitions. So far, the Sri City plant has already completed the initial stages of the source change approval process for Rolls Royce Aerospace, and intends to scale this capacity for the long term. It also aims to develop specialised aerospace manufacturing skills through on-campus training and capacity development.
“Sri City is an important milestone in Sigma’s evolution as a global aerospace manufacturing partner. In just eight months, we have taken a greenfield facility from ground-breaking to production and begun manufacturing aerospace components in India to the standards required by global aerospace programmes,” Sunil Kalidindi, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Sigma Advanced Systems, said in a press release.
“Our objective is not simply to add machining capacity in India, but to replicate the manufacturing capabilities we have in the UK and progressively bring a larger part of the aerospace manufacturing value chain into India. With our first batch of components now manufactured, 100,000 machining hours of annual capacity already operational with the ability to scale to nearly 300,000 machining hours, the facility designed to scale to 500,000 sq ft, Sri City facility will become an important part of Sigma’s global manufacturing platform and expected to drive double digit EBITA expansion.” he added.
