Race in AI Data Centre Gathers Pace with Big Tech Companies Doubling their investment

New Delhi: The world is increasingly competing to create strong AI data centres, and India is currently becoming among the main arenas of the key technology corporations. Hyperscalers such as Amazon Web Services, Google cloud and Microsoft Azure, among various international investors are expanding their investment in establishing large scale data centres in the country twofold.

The primary cause of this mad dash is the enormous expansion of AI-based products, such as generative AI, robotics, autonomous systems, and real-time analytics. These technologies require very intense data centres capable of processing massive data and speedy processing.

India is one of the key markets with its rapidly developing economy and massive digital base. The big tech firms not only would like to retain the Indian user information in the nation, but also provide emerging AI-powered businesses that are on the rise in industries such as healthcare, agriculture, banking, cybersecurity, and digital education.

According to industry analysts, India will require billions of dollars worth data centres in the next three years due to the demand of AI. A large number of states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are offering special incentives to construct such facilities which are cheaper land, expedited approvals and electricity subsidies.

Energy consumption is one of the major challenges. A lot of electricity is required in AI data centres and thus some companies are investing in renewable energy sources like solar and wind power to serve their workload. This will be done to minimize the environment impact and maintain the cost of running the operations down.
