PTC subsidiary Aerolloy Technologies wins order to supply castings for Blue Origin’s BE-4 Engines

Lucknow: Aerolloy Technologies Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of precision materials and engineering company PTC Industries, has secured a major order from Jeff Bezos-based Blue Origin, the company said in a press release.

The order is for the development of highly advanced superalloy investment casting for its BE-4 engines powering the first stage of its New Glenn heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle. The BE-4 engine, developed by Blue Origin in collaboration with leading US space partners, requires highly advanced nickel-based superallow castings for its Liquid Oxygen (LOX) high-pressure and low-pressure manifolds that make up the first stage of New Glenn’s orbital launch vehicle.

Though financials weren’t disclosed, Aerolloy was subjected to expensive qualification and regulatory processes to validate Aerolloy’s ability to execute the project. Aerolloy will use its newly commissioned Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) furnace to melt and process the superalloy under tightly controlled vacuum conditions to meet the metallurgical requirements of such advanced propulsion systems.

Jeff Bezos founded Blue Origin, is developing New Glenn to carry satellites and deep space missions. After its successful inaugural flight in January 2025, New Glenn is looking to launch Blue Moon, a lunar probe, by mid 2026. The reusable orbital launch vehicle is powered by seven BE-4 engines, each delivering approximately 550,000 lbf (~2,450 kN) of thrust. The Superalloy LOX castings by Alleroy are expected to directly impact the engine’s performance, safety and reusability.

“Blue Origin’s selection of Aerolloy for BE-4 engine hardware marks a defining milestone in our entry into space propulsion systems. The BE-4 is among the most advanced engines in operation today, and New Glenn’s performance requirements set an exceptionally high bar for quality and reliability.

The award of this order, following extensive qualification and regulatory review, validates Aerolloy’s ability to deliver large, high-integrity Superalloy investment castings, enabled by our recently commissioned VIM furnace, one of the largest of its kind globally. We are proud to contribute to a program that is shaping the future of access to space, while strengthening India’s position as a trusted source for critical, space-grade hardware.” Mr. Sachin Agarwal, Chairman & Managing Director, PTC Industries Limited, said in a press release.

This development comes just two days after PTC Industries won another contract to supply aerospace-grade titanium ingots to ISRO.
