Nibe Ltd’s subsidiary receives gun manufacturing license from the Ministry of Home Affairs

Pune: Defence Manufacturing company Nibe Limited’s subsidiary Nibe Defence and Aerospace Limited (NDAL) has received a license from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to manufacture firearm components, firearms and rifles for the military in particular. This extends Nibe’s capabilities, as it already manufactures assault rifles and small machine guns in partnership with foreign OEMs.

In a regulatory filing on January 10, Nibe announced its receipt of the license, under the Arms Act, 1959 and the Arms Rules, 2016. This is expected to help the company to formally enter into the segment to manufacture firearms, ammunition and related ssytems.

The license covers a wide range of defence firearm products and components, including pressure-bearing parts like barrels, slides, bolts and firing pins, along with the finished products like pistols, rifles and machine guns. Besides this, the approval also allows for manufacturing testing equipment for these firearms, including systems for 5.56×45 mm ammunition.

This license allows Nibe to participate in the domestic defence manufacturing and testing space, aligning with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Following this license, NDAL will now construct a factory and set up a plant and machinery within seven years to commence production, the company said.
