New Delhi, September 07: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Mines, has signed an agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for the brownfield expansion of its aluminium mine in Odisha. Under this agreement, NALCO will deploy EGA’s proprietary DX+ Ultra smelting technology to enhance operational efficiency and production capacity, marking a transformative phase for the Indian aluminum giant.
EGA’s DX+ Ultra technology uses high amperage and lower power consumption, reducing its environmental footprint. Licensing the technology from EGA allows NALCO to adopt to the global best practices and cutting-edge industrial standards. With this high amperage efficiency, NALCO can absorb 0.5 million TPA capacity boost, taking its total overall output to about 1 million TPA.
This expansion is aimed at meeting the rising demand for high quality aluminium. With this brownfield expansion, NALCO is aiming to boost capacity to meet demand, given that Aluminum smelting remains heavily energy intensive. WIth EGA’s high amperage DX+ Technology, NALCO can optimize its expansions to sustain its long term operational margins.
Given that NALCO has reported a blockbuster net profit surge to ₹2,002 crore in Q1 FY27, this partnership is expected to offer positive long-term prospects for the aluminum smelter, boosting its share price, which has been on a downward trend in the past six months.
