New Delhi: For nearly a decade, Mukesh Ambani transformed India’s telecom industry through Jio. Now, he is betting that artificial intelligence will be the next major revolution.
Reliance Industries has outlined plans to invest heavily in AI infrastructure, data centers, digital services, and advanced computing capabilities. One of the most ambitious announcements involves a proposed ₹10 lakh crore investment over seven years, aimed at building India’s AI ecosystem and expanding the country’s computing infrastructure.
The company is already investing aggressively in digital and new-energy businesses. Recent filings show Reliance’s overall capital expenditure remained above ₹1 lakh crore, with significant investments directed toward future growth sectors.
Industry experts believe Reliance’s AI strategy mirrors the approach it used during the launch of Jio. At that time, affordable internet transformed digital adoption across India. The company’s latest goal is to make AI services affordable and accessible to businesses, consumers, and government institutions.
Another notable development is that Ambani has continued to draw no salary from Reliance for six consecutive years, relying primarily on dividends despite leading one of India’s largest business empires.
As AI becomes a strategic priority worldwide, Reliance’s investments could shape how millions of Indians access and use AI-powered services in the coming decade.
