Mumbai: Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta Platforms has announced an agreement to supply nearly 1GW of renewable energy for its upcoming data center in Jamnagar. The company has signed separate agreements with Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions Limited and Fourth Partner Energy, who will be supplying 837 MW and 88MW of power, respectively, with an option to scale up as per demand.
“We are thrilled to partner with Meta. For us, that infrastructure is increasingly digital, AI-driven and interconnected. It must also be powered by clean energy. We look forward to supporting Meta’s renewable energy ambitions while contributing to India’s clean energy transition.” Kuldeep Jain, Founder and Managing Director, Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions Limited, said in a press release.
“These agreements represent meaningful progress in supporting our renewable energy goals in the region,” Amanda Yang, Head of Clean and Renewable Energy, Meta, added.
Reliance is setting up a data center park in Jamnagar, Gujarat where Meta is setting up a 168MW data center on lease. It will cover the full cost of the energy and water supporting the facility. This data center remains a part of Meta’s long-term India investments, following its $5.7 billion investment in Reliance’s Jio Platforms, besides setting up its $10 billion ‘Project Waterworth’ undersea cable connecting India with the US and Australia while bypassing congested routes.
Meta’s data center in Jamnagar is expected to be commissioned later this year, strengthening the company’s base in one of the fastest-growing AI markets in the world, which is expected to reach $300 billion by 2035.
