New Delhi: In a boost to the government’s Make In India initiative, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved 22 proposals worth ₹ 41,863 crore for manufacturing components. The development, under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), is expected to generate almost 33,791 jobs, according to a press note shared to the media.
The ECMS had been notified in April 2025, with a budget outlay of ₹ 22,919 crore for 6 years. To date, it has received 249 applications worth ₹1.15 lakh crore, potentially creating employment for almost 1.41 lakh people, almost twice the target set by the government.
“The ECMS started last year and we have seen 46 approvals till now with a total investment of ₹54,567 crore till now and there has been a direct employment of 51,000 people,” Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, told reporters in New Delhi.
The latest approvals are expected to cover manufacturing across product segments, including components for mobile phones, telecom equipment, automobiles, IT hardware and consumer electronics.
Amongst the proposals are projects by homegrown components maker Dixon Technologies, Samsung, Tata Electronics, Hindalco Industries and Motherson Electronics Components, amongst others. These proposals are for manufacturing components like PCBs, capacitors, enclosures, connectors and sub-assemblies for camera modules, optical transceivers and display modules.
The projects will be set up across eight states- Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
