New Delhi: Meta is moving forward with its AI initiatives for the company, not just in what it is able to create, but also in the way its employees are organised. The company has been shifting staff in more specific teams with AI, and eliminating or modifying some positions that the company believes can be of less significance in the subsequent development of growth.
Meta has launched AI efforts in 2026 in a much more vigorous and aggressive way. The company has restructured its AI-related workforce, from AI agents, AI infrastructure, to its more overarching superintelligence initiative. In May, it was reported that the company has more than 7,000 staff members shifting to new teams as they restructured and moved work over to AI.
There’s more to Zuckerberg’s change than the human-to-machine replacement. Now he is working on a new thinking, which is building an organisation in which AI will become a daily part of the job. That entails leveraging AI tools to make productivity improvements, accelerate software development and enable research.
Meta’s plan is also to develop what Zuckerberg describes as “personal superintelligence,” features powered by AI that will in the future be accessible to the common man and not just large companies and governments.
Zuckerberg has recently published a lengthy essay of 6,500 words stating that one of the biggest threats that can arise from AI is its overhandling by a few companies. However, Meta is aiming to make AI widely available, and has stated it will continue to release some open AI models, he said.
It’s a tough balancing act that the company has to go through. Meta is investing and recruiting in areas like AI research and infrastructure facilities, and reshaping its workforce. This creates a growing trend of AI-specialised employees.
The transition is also occurring as the tech sector grapples with the pace of job transformations caused by AI. AI systems are being used to aid in completing routine tasks, including coding, handling data for processing, and managing data administration. Meanwhile, businesses are actively seeking professionals proficient in fields like AI, data and advanced computing.
