Layoffs in Indian IT Sector with Companies shifting to AI Automation

New Delhi: The IT sector in India that has been one of the strongest sectors in the country over the decades is currently experiencing a challenging period. A significant number of large IT firms began firing their staff members as they transition to AI automation. This shift has become possible due to the fact that now in artificially intelligent tools, it is possible to perform numerous tasks more quickly, cheaply and with reduced errors.

Over a long period of time, the IT companies in India were reputed to offer software services, coding support, customer care and back-end services to international customers. However, today, AI solutions are automatically carrying out some of these tasks. The AI-based systems now process simple coding and data entry, testing, document checks, relying on AI to answer customer support questions, and even some accounting functions. Due to this, the companies believe that they require a lesser number of employees.

A number of companies have already downsized the departments that handle repetitive duties. It is claimed by the companies that they are not laying off people, they are just not hiring. The others are enticing current employees to reskill and acquire new technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cyber security, and data science.

Reports in the industry indicate that thousands of jobs can be affected in the next few months. Employees who are younger are particularly freshers and less experienced in work and are experiencing more uncertainty. The problem of job security and the fear of becoming obsolete has become many IT workers who are scambling to acquire new skills.
