Kutch Emerges as Major Industrial Centre in Gujarat

Kutch: Kutch has emerged as a major centre of industrial development in Gujarat, driven by infrastructure expansion, port-led growth and investment in future-oriented sectors, speakers said at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference – Vibrant Kutch District-Level Programme held at Gandhidham.

Addressing the programme, Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education Shri Trikambhai Chhanga said Kutch’s transformation reflects the long-term vision behind the Vibrant Gujarat initiative. He said development in the district has accelerated due to improvements in infrastructure, industrial capacity and technological advancement.

He noted that Kutch, which was once largely dependent on handicrafts and cottage industries, is now emerging as a diversified industrial hub, resulting in increased employment opportunities and reverse migration.

Forest and Environment Minister Shri Arjunbhai Modhwadia said Kutch’s strategic location and connectivity have played a significant role in attracting investment. He said the district is contributing to Gujarat’s growth across sectors such as industry, agriculture, tourism and renewable energy.

Highlighting future opportunities, he said Kutch is well positioned to emerge as a global hub for renewable energy, green hydrogen and the blue economy. He added that sustainable development remains a priority and called for industrial participation in environmental conservation initiatives.

Chairman of Deendayal Port Shri S. K. Singh said Kutch will play an important role in achieving the national goal of Viksit Bharat. He said the port and maritime sector, including initiatives in green hydrogen and shipbuilding, will contribute significantly to economic growth. He invited investors to participate in the proposed green hydrogen park in the region.

Kutch–Morbi MP Shri Vinodbhai Chavda said thousands of industrial units are now operational in Kutch, particularly in ports, minerals and chemicals. He said the district’s unique geography—desert, coastline and hills—has been effectively leveraged for development.

Industry representatives also spoke about emerging opportunities. Gandhidham Chamber of Commerce President Shri Mahesh Punj said Kutch is becoming a leader in renewable energy, ports, chemicals and tourism. Manish Kiri of Kiri Industries said the district is fast emerging as Gujarat’s economic powerhouse, with potential in digital infrastructure, marine chemicals and seawater-based industries.
