New Delhi: Listed SME Jonjua Overseas Limited has filed a patent to transform spent coffee grounds into organic fertilizer, boosting yields for vegetable crops like tomatoes, carrots and various other vegetables, the company said in a press release to the bourses. The company’s directors Major Harjinder Singh Jonjua and Mr Harmanpreet Singh Jonjua, had filed the patent with the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks on January 2, 2026.
Through this patented process, a nutrient-rich fertiliser can be substituted against harmful chemical-driven ones that eventually degrade soil quality and affect the survival of several plants that aren’t harmful to crops. By using spent coffee grounds, this patent shows how effective use of recycled materials can help reduce waste and boost crop production. With an increasing focus on eco-friendly farming practices, this process could be a great solution for farmers seeking cost-effective, sustainable fertilisers.
Spent coffee grounds are rich in organic matter and micronutrients like nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, making it a valuable feedstock for compost and fertilizer products.
Under the Global Inhouse center launched by the company, the research and development of technological innovations aims to boost business development, along with social objectives of rural development and sustainability.
