New Delhi: Jio Platforms has been awarded one of India’s top 20 Innovator Companies at the CII Awards 2025, following its growing focus on intellectual property creation and deep tech innovation. The recognition comes on the back of Jio Platform’s portfolio of 1,037 patents filed in India, dwarfing those of TVS Motors (238), CSIR (70), IIT Madras (44) and Ola Electric Mobility (31).
The company has invested almost Rs. 4,185 crore in research and development this year, almost 15% higher than the Rs.3,643 crore it spent in 2024. In the last three years, the company’s R&D spend has increased by almost Rs.1,500 crore, with the company filing patents particularly for its 5G and 6G technologies.
“Jio’s transformation into a Deep-Tech company is now unmistakable. And we have done it on a technology stack that is designed, developed, and deployed entirely in India, by Jio’s own engineers. From developing our very own 5G Core, to rolling out the fastest 5G services, and now deploying our global-first home connect technology, we have cemented our place as a Deep-Tech company.” Mukesh Ambani, Chairman & MD, Reliance Industries had said at RIL’s AGM earlier this year.
Reliance Jio isn’t content with just being a deep tech company, he aims to develop its own manufacturing capabilities. The patents filed, along with its acquisitions and partnerships, is aimed at making Reliance Jio a homegrown technology developer.
