New Delhi: Infosys came under the sharp criticism recently over its recent termination of approximately 400 trainees at the company’s Mysuru campus. According to information, those terminated trainees are reported to be dismissed on three successive failures at the evaluation test. Nearly half of the newly enrolled trainees during October 2024 suffered in the scenario.
What actually happened?
These trainees had waited more than two years to begin with Infosys from the date their training started after an economic slump delayed the activation of these trains. However once they began it was evaluation testing for them tough. Some among the trainee believe that, the tests got tougher in making them quit their job.
One of the terminating trainees said to Moneycontrol that the tests were phenomenally tough, and many felt that they were set up to fail. Some were so stressed that they fainted fearing what comes next for their careers.
How the layoffs were handled?
Sources say the trainees were called in groups of 50 and asked to sign “mutual separation” letters. Infosys reportedly had security guards and even bouncers present to make sure no one had mobile phones. After signing the papers, the trainees were told to leave by 6 PM.
Criticizing Infosys on such actions, Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate-NITES termed the move as blatant corporate exploitation. NITES has written to the Ministry of Labour & Employment to take action against Infosys. NITES president Harpreet Singh Saluja said that it is the need of time for the government to step in for protecting the rights of IT employees.
This has caused many debates about how companies treat their employees, especially in the competitive IT industry. Many are questioning whether the evaluation system is fair and if companies should be held more accountable for how they handle layoffs.
