New Delhi: India’s most affluent business families are still responsible for a significant proportion of the company wealth. As per the latest Barclays Private Clients Hurun India report, the total worth of the Ambani, Birla and Jindal Families is estimated to be around ₹42 trillion till June 2026.
Led by Reliance Industries’ Mukesh Ambani, the Ambani family was India’s most valuable family of businessmen, valued at ₹25.8 trillion. This is almost three times the valuation of the second-ranked Kumar Mangalam Birla family.
The family of Kumar Mangalam Birla was valued around ₹8.1 trillion and the Jindal family was just a step behind at ₹8 trillion. This means that the three families contributed to making a total of ₹1.57 trillion in wealth in the last twelve months.
The combined value of their holdings at ₹42 trillion is worth of approximately $ 444 billion which is close to 9% of the market capitalisation of all listed companies in India, which is undoubtedly considerable.

India’s top 10 families worth ₹70.5 trillion
The report further revealed that India’s top 10 business families valued at ₹70.5 trillion in June 2026. This was up from ₹69 trillion a year before.
Some of the entry level for the top 10 also rose. The lowest valuation for those companies to appear on the list grew by almost 14% to ₹2.5 trillion, reflecting the rapid growth in valuation of India’s top family businesses.
Of course, the report focused on the positive developments in other business groups that showed strong growth. The Anil Agarwal family holding Vedanta Group jumped three steps to 6th position with its valuation growing by 74.7% in a year.
But others in family-owned businesses in the technology sector experienced a decline in their ranking. The shares of the Nadar family of HCL Technologies fell 38%, while those of the Premji family of Wipro fell 2.3% to move to the eighth and ninth places respectively.
Family businesses remain a major economic force
The report included the 300 most valuable family owned business houses in India worth of about ₹138 trillion ($1.46 trillion). These companies have over 5.4 lakh employees and they generate the income of approximately ₹56 lakh crore.
The results highlight the significance of family businesses in India’s business and economy.
