New Delhi: Even though there are rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian government and big public companies have clearly said that everything is under control. There have been some news reports about people rushing to petrol pumps and long lines, especially in states near the border. But officials have said there’s no need to panic, we have enough food, fuel, and fertilizers and are all available in good amounts.
Government officers, after talking with different states, confirmed that India has more than enough food grains, Pakistan fuel, and fertilisers. The supply system is working properly through trains, trucks, and flights, and there’s been no disturbance. Prices are also stable in around 500 markets across India, and supplies are coming in every day.
A food ministry officer said that over 25 million tonnes of wheat were recently bought by government agencies, and the total food grain stock is now about 66.17 million tonnes. Rahul Chauhan from iGrain Pvt Ltd, a big agriculture company, also confirmed this.
Government is keeping a close watch
The central government is keeping an eye on the prices of important items like vegetables and pulses. They are having regular meetings with State Food Secretaries to make sure everything is okay and to solve any local issues.
Meanwhile, States have also been told to be careful so that no one can hoard items, cheat people, or spread fake news or rumors that causes panic, if needed, the government may use special laws like the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), like they did during Covid-19, to make sure supplies don’t stop, companies such as Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL, have all told the public that they have plenty of petrol, diesel, and LPG. Indian Oil, which has over 37,500 petrol stations, said everything is running smoothly, and people should not panic.
Even though people in Punjab and other border areas rushed to petrol pumps after hearing about military actions, the companies said there’s no need to worry. Fuel sales did go up in those areas, but the oil companies are asking everyone to stay calm and not crowd petrol pumps.
Indian Oil also posted on social media:
“IndianOil has ample fuel stocks across the country and our supply lines are operating smoothly. There is no need for panic buying, fuel and LPG is readily available at all our outlets.”
Farmers are also safe
As farmers get ready for the kharif crop season, the government has made sure there is no shortage of fertilisers or grains. A group of different ministries is checking the availability regularly, since these things are very important for farming and food production in India.
The government is also talking to big agriculture market committees to make sure no one is trying to create fake shortages or raise prices unfairly. Officials have clearly said that vegetables and other items are available as usual, and markets are being supplied daily.
These strong statements from the government came after India carried out targeted attacks on terrorist sites in Pakistan. Pakistan also responded with drone and missile attacks. But Indian officials said that our forces stopped all attacks successfully, and these events have not affected the supply of any important goods inside the country.
