Indian Professionals Rise to Top Jobs in US While H1B Visa Rules Tighten

New Delhi: Amidst all the controversies and restrictions over H1B visa rules and new charges, two Indian-origin professionals have made their mark in the American corporate sector by landing top posts without much fanfare. They have been promoted to CEO at leading US corporations despite restricted visas and additional charges that had caused a lot of controversy. Talent and experience, it seems, can at times override politics.

Recently, the US government has proposed a $10,000 (approximately ₹88 lakh) one-time charge for H 1B visa applications. This was criticized as a hurdle for Indian professionals and other nations’ skilled workers to come and work in the US. Most considered it an obstacle to international talent. But here is an interesting turn of events: two Indian-origin executives, Rahul Goyal and Srinivas Gopalan, have now been selected to head up leading companies, proving that firms continue to look for experience and leadership before everything else.

Srinivas Gopalan, 55, will become the new CEO of T Mobile from November 1. He was the Chief Operating Officer before this appointment and has a long, international career behind him. Beginning as a management trainee at Hindustan Unilever, Gopalan progressed to taking important positions at Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Capital One, and Deutsche Telekom. His contributions have been responsible for driving growth, increasing fiber infrastructure, and gaining market share in Germany. At T Mobile, he has been the leader in technology, commercial businesses, and digital transformation, including projects in 5G and AI. Now, as CEO, he will be guiding the company into its next chapter.

Additionally, Rahul Goyal, 49, has been named Chairman and CEO of Molson Coors, effective October 1. With 24 years of company tenure, Goyal has experience in working across the US, UK, and India with several brands under Molson and Coors. Having been trained as an engineer in India and in business management in the US, he has profound knowledge of global markets. The board of the company stated that Goyal was the ideal candidate to drive Molson Coors into its next phase of development, indicating confidence in his extensive experience and leadership.

These hiring decisions matter more than just to the individuals themselves. They send an unmistakable message that skill, performance, and experience count, even in tight immigration policies. Though political arguments over visa regulations tend to imply that overseas professionals “steal American jobs,” these actions indicate that businesses care more about expertise and outcomes.
