New Delhi: India is entering a new digital era, and one of the biggest reasons behind this change is the massive growth of data centres across the country. Over the next few years, India is expected to see a 100 billion dollar data centre boom, which experts believe will completely transform how we store, use, and protect digital information.
A data centre is basically a huge building filled with servers. These servers store everything we do online, photos, videos, apps, bank details, office files, gaming data, and much more. Earlier, most companies used to depend on data centres in other countries. But now, India wants to store more of its own data within the country, and this has created a big opportunity.
Many cities such as Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, and Pune are becoming the main hotspots for new data centres. These places have good internet connectivity, strong power supply, and access to large pieces of land. Because of this, big global players like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and several Indian companies are investing heavily in building new data centres.
One of the major drivers of this boom is India’s increasing internet usage. Today, almost every Indian uses a smartphone, online shopping, UPI payments, OTT platforms, and AI-powered apps. All this requires unlimited digital storage. Another major reason is government policies like the Digital India mission, which is pushing more online services like e-governance, digital health records, and online education platforms.
This growth is also expected to create thousands of new jobs in engineering, security, maintenance, and cloud technology. Many experts also believe this boom will push India closer to becoming a global digital powerhouse.
