New Delhi: IIT Bombay has also launched a new foundation known as BharatGen Technology Foundation that focuses on the development of AI tools in Indian languages. This is a significant step since most of the currently existing AI systems only communicate in English to the exclusion of millions of Indians who speak their local languages.
The vision of the BharatGen is straightforward; simplify technology. A person could speak either Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, Bengali, or any other Indian language; nevertheless, they must be able to use AI tools without any inconveniences. Basing on this, IIT Bombay desires to create AI models, chatbots, translation software and voice assistants that comprehend Indian languages without any problem.
The country of India has over 20 dominant languages that people speak. But technology has not infiltrated all people due to the language barrier. BharatGen intends to address this issue by training AI on the Indian language information. This will aid the students, office workers, farmers, shopkeepers and even government departments to use AI in their day to day activities.
This project is particularly much anticipated by the students since it will open up more research opportunities to them. This is also closely followed by many startups, which would like to use the Indian language AI to reach out to customers in smaller towns and villages. BharatGen tools may also be employed by the government in education, healthcare and services to the population.
