Gandhinagar: In an important decision, the Gujarat Government has formed a core committee and task force to prepare the state’s energy infrastructure against cyber attacks. This core committee and task force will review the necessary work, training, participation of various institutions and cyber awareness programs regarding cyber security in the state’s energy sector and present a roadmap.
With the state’s 24-hour power supply system now incorporating modern systems like smart meters, smart grids and SCADA, the potential for cyber attacks in energy infrastructure increases. Keeping this in mind, the State Government has constituted an 11-member core committee and a 19-member task force by the Energy and Petrochemicals Department (EPD).
“As we make our grid state-of-the art with digital sensors and real-time monitoring, we must ensure that our progress is not sabotaged by invisible threats,” a senior official from the Energy Department noted. “This committee will ensure that Gujarat remains a leader not just in energy production, but in energy security.”
This committee and task force will review the IT and cyber security arrangements for critical infrastructure in the energy sector, cyber security policy and its incident management preparations.
Apart from this, it will also present a roadmap for necessary improvements and creation of a cyber security system. For this, partnerships will also be made with educational institutions and experts in this field and awareness programs along with cyber drills and training will be organized as well as coordination with national and state agencies. This decision has been taken with the objective of developing a robust and well-structured system to make the state’s energy infrastructure resilient against cyber attacks.
