Surat: The diamond city of Surat is witnessing a unique Mango Festival and Mega Exhibition of Mango Varieties organized by Gujarat Agro and Horticulture Department, Gandhinagar at Gujarat Vibrant Exhibition at AURO University.
Under this program, samples of 72 different varieties of mango were presented by about 125 farmers from seven districts of South Gujarat. About 40 to 50 farmers of the district were present at the stall to sell their mangoes prepared using natural farming methods without chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Farmers have put various varieties like Kesar, Rajapuri, Vanraj, Hafus, Dussehri on the stall for direct sale to the customers.
In the seminar organized on this occasion, Agriculture Minister Jitubhai Vaghani requested the farmers to take advantage of various assistance schemes implemented by the government for profitable farming. The Agriculture Minister requested them to get more income from less farming by farming in net houses and greenhouses.
For the progressive farmers, 65% subsidy will be given by the Horticulture Department and 35% loan will be given by the Gujarat Government, the Agriculture Minister said.
