Elon Musk’s SpaceX Moves Closer to Historic IPO, Bets Big on AI and Mars Future

New Delhi: SpaceX is getting ready for an IPO that could revolutionise the sector, as entrepreneur Elon Musk pushes the company further into the realms of artificial intelligence and plans for future Mars colonisation.

As reported, SpaceX intends to raise close to $75 billion during its first IPO. After the offering, the company will have a valuation of up to $1.75 trillion to $2 trillion. This makes it potentially one of the largest stock market debuts in the tech and space sector.

Among the things unveiled by the SpaceX IPO filing is that the company made roughly $18.7 billion worth of revenue in the previous year. Despite the impressive growth in revenue, SpaceX was still recording billions of dollars in operating losses. It turns out that the company invested a lot in infrastructure for artificial intelligence and other future space-related projects.

For now, the most profitable part of the SpaceX business is Starlink, the satellite internet network that covers different locations around the world. It appears that Starlink accounted for much of SpaceX revenues in early 2026, according to media sources. In turn, it seems highly likely that Starlink will contribute to many of SpaceX future expansions.

At the same time, SpaceX is working on developing artificial intelligence capabilities as part of its xAI programme. In particular, SpaceX is reportedly pouring enormous money into developing AI data centres, computer hardware and future AI in outer space. xAI apparently suffered losses amounting to well over $6 billion in 2025 due to significant infrastructure investments.

Musk himself also has grand ambitions to colonise Mars, which were revealed by the IPO filing. According to SpaceX documents, the company is reportedly planning to create fully self-sufficient colonies of humans. Additionally, Musk wants to establish entire industries in space, including mining asteroids, manufacturing goods in space and setting up orbit-based AI data centres. As he himself said, becoming “a multi-planetary species” is one of his major goals.

In addition, media sources suggest that Musk’s compensation plan is based on certain future achievements. For example, some of those include setting up a self-sufficient colony on Mars that could host up to one million people.

At the same time, SpaceX is still working on developing its Starship reusable rocket. It plays a key role in all future missions of the company, both to the Moon and Mars. The rocket will be used to launch satellites in the Starlink programme and deploy next generation Starlink satellites starting from late 2026.

Nevertheless, there are some risks involved in SpaceX’s IPO. In particular, market analysts point to the high amount of debt the company has, its large AI investments and Musk’s absolute authority over SpaceX operations. Musk reportedly will be able to maintain a majority shareholder status even after the company’s listing on the stock exchange.
