New Delhi: Elon Musk is a billionaire entrepreneur who has made another controversial announcement. He said recently that his companies, Tesla and SpaceX, lack independent safety teams. Musk explains that the safety of all engineers and managers should be addressed not by a different department.
This remark soon sparked discussion on social media and even within the industry. Tesla produces electric vehicles that serve millions of people, whereas SpaceX launches rockets and satellites into the space. The level of risk is high in both the industries. According to many experts, the independent safety teams are significant to such companies.
Musk clarified that once responsibility is dismissed on another group by giving them safety, the other departments will end up neglecting the duty. He remarked that in his firms, everyone is conditioned to consider safety during the process of designing and construction of its products. In his opinion, such a strategy yields greater outcomes.
However, critics disagree. They claim that the checks and balances are offered by independent safety teams. In their absence, there is a chance that the speed of production or cost reduction will be given more weight than safety.
Tesla has previously encountered the inquiries, with regards to the injuries at the workplace, and the car accidents that were caused by its Autopilot system. The other area that SpaceX is involved with is dealing with highly complicated rocket launches wherein any minor error will result in severe consequences.
According to the proponents of Musk, his businesses have managed to reach extraordinary success within a limited period of time. Tesla has become amongst the largest electric vehicle producers in the globe whereas SpaceX has reshaped the space sector with reusable rockets.
