New Delhi: Elon Musk has again used social media to highlight his vision of a technology-driven future, posting the message “This is the future we shall bring into being” alongside an AI-generated video depicting a futuristic world.
Musk shared the post on September 20 as the technology industry continues to accelerate investment in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, space technology, robotics and advanced transportation.
The post was followed by discussion around Musk’s broader infrastructure ambitions. In a related exchange, Musk said his tunnelling company, The Boring Company, was working on what he described as a precursor to a Hyperloop between Austin and San Antonio in Texas. He said the system could potentially reduce the journey between the two cities to less than 30 minutes.
The proposal reflects a broader theme running across Musk’s companies: using technology to redesign existing infrastructure and transportation systems.
The Boring Company has already developed an operational tunnel-based transportation system in Las Vegas, although several previously announced projects in other cities have not materialised at the scale originally proposed. The company also raised $3 billion in a funding round led by the United Arab Emirates, according to recent reporting.
Musk’s futuristic post also comes as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly connected with his wider technology interests. AI is now being integrated into autonomous vehicles, robotics, industrial systems and digital infrastructure, while companies globally are investing heavily in computing capacity and specialised chips.
The scale of the AI race has also increased pressure on technology companies to develop new infrastructure. OpenAI, for example, has projected significant spending on computing and infrastructure over the next several years, while governments are simultaneously investing in domestic AI capabilities.
Musk has previously linked AI development with the need for abundant electricity and advanced computing infrastructure. His companies are involved in several areas where AI could play a major role, including autonomous driving, robotics, space operations and satellite communications.
