New Delhi: Inspira Global, the company behind the Chinese Wok Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) chain, has agreed to acquire a controlling stake in Restaurant Brands Asia (RBA), the master franchise for Burger King® in India and both Burger King® and Popeyes® in Indonesia, as the company looks to expand its presence in the highly competitive QSR sector.
Under the agreement, Inspira Global, through its food and beverage arm Lenexis Foodworks Pvt. Ltd. will purchase the majority owner QSR Asia’s 11.26% stake in RBA for about ₹460 crore. In line with SEBI’s takeover regulations, the deal will trigger an open offer with a share price of ₹70 per share, potentially increasing its stake in the company.
Besides this, the company will also invest ₹900 crore in the company with an aim to turn around the company, which reported net losses of ₹63 crore in Q2 FY25.
The acquisition is expected to help RBA fight competitors like Jubilant Foodworks, Devyani International, and Westlife Food, the master franchisees of well-known QSR brands like McDonald’s and Pizza Hut.
RBA holds the master franchise for Burger King in India and Indonesia. The company aims to expand its reach by adding 60-80 new restaurants each year until it reaches 800 restaurants.
Earlier this month, Sapphire Foods India Ltd (SFIL) announced that it was merging into Devyani International merging their KFC and Pizza Hut franchises under one roof. For Aayush Madhusudan Agrawal- promoted Inspira Global, the real test would be to stand out against the competition, especially at a time when disposable spending has been slowing and competition for patrons has intensified dramatically.
