Bengaluru: The Railway’s dream of ensuring zero fatalities on the tracks has come closer with major progress made for the development of the next-generation uniform braking algorithm for railway locomotives of all classes. This system, designed to enhance safety, has been designed by GG Tronics India, a subsidiary of CG Power.
The company, which has been designated as a supplier for the government-backed Loco Kavach initiative, has been working to meet the requirements of the Centre of Excellence and the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) departments of the Railways.
GG Tronics has received an order from the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works for the supply of the Loco Kavach Systems in November 2024. However, the delivery period has been extended due to delays in the approvals.
The Railways is in the midst of upgrading its locomotives with the indigenously developed Kavach safety systems. It is aiming to equip more than 10,000 of its locomotives with the Kavach systems, that is aimed at assisting loco pilots for running trains within the speed limits and reducing the chances of fatalities on the tracks.
Bengaluru-based GG Tronics has been a leading player in the Electronic Safety Embedded Systems for the Railways, making a mark as a crucial supplier to the Railways. Though the approvals are in the final stages, analysts say the order could be cancelled if they don’t come through on time.
GG Tronics reported a 29.76% rise in consolidated net profit to ₹286.72 crore with a corresponding 21.14% increase in revenue to ₹2.922.79 crore in Q2 FY26 as compared to the same period last year. CG Power acquired a majority 55% stake in this unlisted company for ₹319 crore in August 2024.
