New Delhi: The year-end report for Zomato for the period ended 31 st December, 2024 gives a good, fun and interesting picture of how people in India are ordering food and going out to eat with some logistics and hilarious anecdotes in terms of value changes across the length and breadth of India.
The most popular one has to be from the city of Bengaluru, a man who ordered for 51 times had only a single visit where his total bill reached ₹5,13,733! The amount shown in the above slicing represents other extreme dining bills which reflect that eating out is more of an experience besides the food.
Biryani came back as the most ordered dish in India in 2024 at 9,13,99,110 order in a year- that are 3 biryanis every second! Right behind were pizzas, with 5,84,46,908 orders. Of course, the old favorites are still pretty popular: biryani will remain a go-to meal anytime soon, and pizza is yet again on the list.
In an interesting twist, Zomato which is in partnership with IRCTC is now altering how travellers experience having meals when onboard trains. One hilarious example? One of the passengers wanted to order 120 Manchurian Combinations, to feed the whole train bogey! Illustrations like these have made trips to include food delivery for many.
The Blinkit part of the report also has some fun facts about the quick delivery trends. Lately, people bought 2 lakh packs of Maggi noodles in 2024 and 1 lakh cans of Coca-Cola. A standout? This single consumer of the drink bought 1203 bottles of the soda in question specifically Sprite. Quite unexpectedly, tonic water was the other bestselling from the new formats, with nearly 3.8 million cans consumed.
In regard to eating out, Indians are definitely passionate about this concept. Zomato served 1,25,24,000 table bookings in 2024, and the highest number of books was during Father’s Day, 85,000 bookings were made to enjoy a meal with dad.City-specific insights were equally intriguing. Delhiites saved the most on their dining bills, using Zomato discounts to the tune of ₹195 crore, way ahead of Bengaluru and Mumbai. Looks like Delhi knows how to enjoy good food while saving big!
And let’s not forget the beverages. Tea was the champion drink of 2024, with 77,76,725 orders, beating coffee, which racked up 74,32,856 orders. Clearly, tea continues to hold a special place in Indian hearts (and cups).
