New Delhi: The partnership between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and NVIDIA, which has been ongoing for some time, is a massive expansion and growth as demand for AI keeps increasing. The two companies will roll out an extra 2 million NVIDIA GPUs through AWS’s worldwide network in 2027 and 2028.
The new plan seeks to provide the increased compute capacity businesses, AI developers, research institutions, and governments need to develop and implement advanced AI systems. The extra GPUs will enable applications in areas like agentic AI, scientific research, business automation, and physical AI such as robotics.
AWS has been collaborating with NVIDIA for 16 years. Already their tie-up has enabled NVIDIA to introduce its GPU technology to AWS cloud services. “But, the reverse is now the case; companies report that AI workloads are expanding at a faster pace than originally anticipated, thereby driving up the demand for more powerful computing infrastructure,” the companies say.
NVIDIA Vera CPUs coming to AWS
In addition, AWS will be taking NVIDIA’s Vera CPUs into its cloud offering as part of the enhanced partnership. The advantage of these processors is that they can process intense CPU tasks, such as executing code, running tools, handling data and coordinating various AI tasks.
AWS is also collaborating with NVIDIA to integrate its all-new Trainium chips with NVIDIA’s NVLink Fusion technology. The companies are investigating NVIDIA’s also new custom high-bandwidth memory technology, which promises to heighten both the speed and power efficiency of AI workloads.
100,000 GPUs planned for US Government AI
The collaboration also will take a look at government AI projects. AWS and NVIDIA want to develop secure AI infrastructure for the U.S. government, such as 100,000 NVIDIA GPUs for the federal and national-security sectors. The infrastructure will enable very secure government AI applications.
The companies are also growing their involvement in networking, open AI models, data processing, and robotics. Amazon Robotics leverages NVIDIA’s physical AI technologies to advance the development of creating robots for its future Amazon warehouses, including NVIDIA’s Jetson, Omniverse, and Isaac.
The new deal marks another testament to AWS and NVIDIA’s attempts to get ready for a vast new world of AI computing in the years ahead.
