New Delhi: Apple is getting ready to reveal one of its biggest software changes in years at the WWDC 2025 event, which will be held on June 9 at 10:30 PM IST. The biggest highlight? A fresh and shiny design called Liquid Glass, which will bring a new look to iOS 26, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and even tvOS.
This change is being called Apple’s most major UI makeover since 2013’s iOS 7, which had moved away from the old-school realistic icons to a flatter look. Now, Apple is going for something more glossy, see-through, and modern.
What is Liquid Glass?
Liquid Glass is a new design language where everything, icons, buttons, toolbars, looks smooth like polished glass. You’ll see rounded shapes, glowing highlights, and soft transparency across all Apple devices.
Apps like Safari will get floating bars, and tools will appear like they’re hovering above the background. According to tech expert Mark Gurman, the whole interface will feel “alive,” reacting to how you move your device.
This design isn’t just for looks, it’s a sneak peek into Apple’s 2027 iPhone, which will mark 20 years since the first iPhone.
Codenamed Glasswing, the future phone is rumored to come with:
- Curved glass on all sides
- Almost no bezels
- A display with no visible camera holes
So, Liquid Glass will match perfectly with these next-gen features, making the phone look like it’s made of pure glass.
Big Changes Coming to Apple Apps
Apple is also updating some of its popular apps to match the new design:
- Phone app: Will show calls, voicemails, and favorites in one place.
- Camera: Easier controls with flash and Live Photo toggles.
- Messages: You’ll be able to create polls and get instant translations.
- Music: Lock screen will show animated album covers.
- Notes: Now supports Markdown export, which is great for students and bloggers.
- A new Game app is also coming to show all your Apple Arcade and other games in one place.
Apart from the cool look, Apple is also bringing smart updates powered by AI:
- Battery Optimization: Saves battery by learning your phone habits.
- Live Call Translation: Real-time translation using AirPods.
- Genmoji 2.0: Mix emojis to create your own fun ones.
- Transfer to Android: Yes, Apple is making it easier to shift your eSIM to an Android phone.
With this Liquid Glass update, Apple is trying to make all its devices—iPhones, Macs, iPads, Vision Pro headsets, look and feel the same visually. This means when you switch from your phone to your laptop or even Apple Vision Pro, the design won’t feel jarring.
