New Delhi: Jindal Steel plans to expand its Raigarh facility’s structural steel capacity from 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 2.4 MTPA by 2028, as the company looks to capitalise on rising demand from infrastructure, power, construction and industrial segments.
The company aims to reinforce its leadership in the structural steel segment, with a roadmap to commission a new structural steel mill with the relevant upstream and downstream technology upgrades. This will help the company manufacture large, heavier and complex parallel flange sections needed for state-of-the-art infrastructure and energy projects. Following the expansion, Jindal Steel aims to expand from 100 to 900 mm parallel flange sections to ultra heavy sections reaching 1,100 mm in dept and 1,500 kg per metre.
With these enhanced capabilities, Jindal Steel aims to support the growing demand from infrastructure, refinery, power, renewable energy, transmission and high-end construction projects in India, many of whom continue to rely in imported structural steel sections.
“Doubling our structural steel capacity at Raigarh is a strategic step towards building long-term domestic capability for large and complex projects. With the ability to manufacture the largest parallel flange sections in India, we are enabling faster execution, improved design efficiency, and reduced dependence on imports for critical infrastructure and energy applications.” Subrat Panda, Head – Structures & CSB, Jindal Steel, said in a press release.
