Alphabet’s $900 Million SpaceX investment grows to $94 Billion

Alphabet’s $900 Million SpaceX investment grows to $94 Billion

New Delhi: Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has fully reaped the benefits of its early investment in Elon Musk’s SpaceX, with its shares more than 100 times their initial value in just 10 years. The company has a $94.2 billion stake in SpaceX as of the end of June 2026, a Reuters report says, putting investment at around $900 million in 2015.

Alphabet has upped its stake in the company after SpaceX’s business has grown and it is now one of the most valuable private space companies in the world. In June 2026, SpaceX went public in an IPO, valued at $86 billion, which allows their investors to trade their shares on the public market.

Alphabet had approximately 551.2 million shares in SpaceX as of the end of the second quarter, according to a regulatory filing. These shares have been worth $170.86 apiece on that date, and the total value of Alphabet’s stake is estimated to be $94.2 billion.

But SpaceX’s stock price has declined since then. With Thursday’s shares priced at $141.29, the disclosed stake would be valued at around $77.9 billion. On that scale, the investment is still more than 86.5 times more than the initial $900 million investment by Alphabet.

Out of the top 10 biggest shareholders in SpaceX, Alphabet takes the No. 1 spot in its reported holdings. Fidelity Investments, Gigafund Management, the Public Investment Fund of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Baillie Gifford and BlackRock are among other big investors. The top 5 reported institutional holders hold almost 3/4 of the reported shares.

SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk also remains a major shareholder. As of June 30, Musk held a 48.4% ownership position of SpaceX, according to a regulatory filing.

What’s worth keeping in mind is that SpaceX’s investment in Alphabet shows the significant value of a relatively small early investment in a high growth business over time. It also helps illustrate the impact of SpaceX’s speedy expansion in space services as well as satellite and other space services.

While the value of SpaceX’s investment is subject to change, as shares fluctuate in the market, the upshot is that for Alphabet, it is one of its biggest long-term wagers.
