New Delhi: Gone are the days when passengers were able to pass their time during their journey, Air India has joined the bandwagon to improve passenger experience by providing free Wi-Fi on its flights. The service is being provided on Trident Airbus A350, Boeing 787 – 9 and selected Airbus A321 neo aircraft. Operationally this also make Air India the first airline to introduce Wi-Fi connectivity on domestic sections given the ascendancy of the need for connectivity amongst passengers.
Those new Wi-Fi services let passengers surf the Internet, use social networks, work, or just call people while flying. In an interview with Rajesh Dogra, the Chief Customer Experience Officer of the airline seeks to point out that the service is well suited to both the casual and the business tourist. It connects more than one device on iOS and Android while the Wi-Fi works above 10,000 feet.
Originally, the planes just tried using Wi-Fi overseas towards cities like NY, London, Paris, Singapore, etc. Well now it is, because it is a free trial So that is it on the app. For connectivity, passengers just have to go to the setting option on your mobile, click on Wi-Fi and connect to Air India Wi-Fi and enter the PNR code number and last name.
Such factors like satellite signals, bandwidth, flight routes, regulations etc can worst the quality of the Wi-Fi. Air India plans to roll out this service across its entire fleet soon for a smoother experience for everyone.
As Air India marks three years under Tata Group in January 2025, it’s also halfway through its major transformation plan, Vihaan.AI. This program is focused on making Air India a top global airline with a strong Indian identity. Some of the changes include:
- Air India has added over 100 new aircraft, including advanced Airbus A350s for major routes like Delhi-London and Delhi-New York. A third of its wide-body fleet now has upgraded interiors and entertainment systems.
- The airline has merged four Tata airlines into one full-service carrier, alongside Air India Express for budget flights. This brings the fleet to about 300 aircraft serving more than 100 destinations worldwide.
- The airline has hired around 9,000 new staff members, who have received extra training at South Asia’s biggest aviation training center in Gurugram.
Air India is also investing broadly in new facilities, like a maintenance hub in Bengaluru and a flight school situated in Amravati. These investments are set to support the airline’s growing fleet and improve its efficiency. The rebranded Maharaja Club frequent flyer program now has about 10 million members, and their AI-powered chatbot has earned praise for being user-friendly.
