After Google, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance inks MoU with Andhra Pradesh for setting up a 1GW data centre

Vizag: Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries is all set to set up a 1GW data centre in Andhra Pradesh, after the company signed a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the state government during the CII Partnership Summit 2025 in Vizag.

The facility will be the second one after the company’s Jamnagar AI data centre, creating one of Asia’s largest AI infrastructure networks. To ensure clean and sustainable energy for the centre, Reliance is also setting up a 6GWp solar power project.

This development comes at a time when interest in setting up AI infrastructure is at an all-time high, given that India is the second-biggest adopter of AI technologies in the world, accounting for about 9% of total traffic to AI-focused websites.

To keep up with growing demand for data computing and storage, Reliance, other tech companies, including Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Sify, are also joining the bandwagon.

So far, Andhra Pradesh has signed deals with Google (1GW) and Sify (500MW) to set up data centres in the state, hoping to reach its target of 6GW of data centre capacity.

Besides this, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance is also aiming to set up a 170-acre integrated food park at Kurnool on land allotted by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). The facility is expected to manufacture packaged beverages, drinking water, snacks, atta and more, while generating employment for thousands of people across the region.

To date, Reliance has already invested over $25 billion across Andhra Pradesh in the oil and gas, digital services and retail sectors.

“I welcome Reliance’s landmark investments, which align with our vision to make AP a global hub for AI innovation, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. These projects will generate high-quality jobs, open new opportunities for our youth, and accelerate the state’s journey towards a cleaner and more prosperous future,’’ State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said.
