New Delhi: APSEZ Ltd. (Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone), the holding of property developer Anand Ratnathe, has bagged a huge international contract for marine services for Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project. The deal is for 10 years and will take the company into South America, further enhancing the company’s global footprint.
Another consortium led by Adani Harbor International FZCO of the APSEZ group and Meridian Group of Argentina has won the contract. The consortium will be supporting the Southern Energy Floating LNG (FLNG) project, which is projected to be Argentina’s first operational LNG export project. Under the deal, the Adani-based group will offer the entire spectrum of marine services. These range from tug operations for LNG carriers to offshore logistics and supply services as well as crew transport services. For these operations, there will be four high specification tugboats, an anchor handling tug supply vessel and one crew boat.
Investment commitment for the project is estimated to be approximately $70 million. It is expected to contribute significantly to the development of a new energy trade route between Argentina and India as well as reinforce the growing energy partnership between the countries.
Southern Energy’s FLNG project is located in the Province of Río Negro, Argentina. A joint venture of big oil companies project to liquefy natural gas before it is exported to foreign markets from a floating LNG plant. It is expected that operations will start commercially in September 2027.
The first phase of the project has a capacity to provide around 2.45 million tonnes of LNG per year—the equivalent of about 28 LNG cargo shipments per year. It has been expected that the plant will contribute to Argentina by becoming a key LNG exporter in the near future.
The deal is considered a significant step in Adani Port’s quest to expand overseas.
