New Delhi: According to a recent survey conducted by Godaddy India, approximately 62 percent of small businesses in India rely on websites, online stores, or e-commerce platforms as their primary sales channel for growth. This highlights the increasing importance of digital platforms in the Indian business landscape. The survey also revealed that globally, 46 percent of small businesses surveyed were established within the last 1-5 years, with India accounting for 55 percent of such businesses during the same period.
Notably, the survey emphasized that a significant portion of Indian small businesses, around 83 percent, have embraced online selling within the past five years. This trend is further reflected in the proactive measures taken by small Indian businesses to establish their online presence. These measures include creating social media profiles (35 percent), engaging in online advertising (34 percent), and personally reaching out to potential customers (33 percent).
On a global scale, the survey indicated that 64 percent of small business owners derive up to half of their annual revenue from online sales channels, while 37 percent reported generating 51 to 100 percent of their revenue through online channels. Moreover, 61 percent of businesses worldwide utilize a combination of websites, online stores, or both as their primary sales channels. In India, 65 percent of respondents indicated that up to half of their revenue comes from online sales, with 36 percent reporting over 50 percent of their revenue originating from online channels.
Apurva Planitkar, the Senior Marketing Director at Godaddy India, expressed the significance of these findings. He stated, “The survey results showcase that small businesses in India recognize the value of taking advantage of online tools for enhanced growth opportunities and sales.” He emphasized the importance of establishing a robust online presence and utilizing complementary digital tools to gain a competitive edge in the constantly evolving online marketplace.
