ABB India ships its first Made in India Wind Power Converter from its Bengaluru facility

Bengaluru: ABB India has shipped its first ‘Made In India’ wind power converter from its state-of-the-art Nelamangala facility as the company looks to boost its hold in India’s power generation equipment sector. This development comes after the company acquired Gamesa Electric’s power business in 2024.

With this, the company joins a select club of renewable power equipment manufacturers, including Suzlon, Inox Wind and Hitachi Energy, which have the capabilities and know-how to deliver this advanced equipment. For ABB India, this solidifies its footprint in the wind power sector and boosts its role in India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India visions.

ABB plays a key role in renewable energy globally, having delivered more than 60,000 wind converters and generators worldwide. This strengthens ABB’s position as a reliable supplier for India’s renewable energy sector, with the government targeting to install 500 GW of energy infrastructure by 2030.

“Wind energy plays a critical role in the energy transition. By delivering advanced power conversion technologies that are locally manufactured in India and engineered for effective grid integration, we are strengthening the integration of wind power into the grid and supporting the scale-up of renewable energy worldwide,” Anoop Anand, President – Motion High Power Division, ABB India Ltd, said in a press release.

“This also reinforces India’s position as a global hub for renewable energy manufacturing and deployment,” Anoop added.
