Reliance Retail Accelerates Digital Push as India’s E-Commerce Competition Intensifies

New Delhi: Reliance Retail is strengthening its digital and hyperlocal commerce operations as competition intensifies across India’s e-commerce, grocery and quick-commerce markets. The company is combining its large physical retail network with JioMart, digital platforms and merchant partnerships to build an increasingly integrated offline-online retail model.

The scale of the business provides Reliance Retail with a significant physical base for its digital strategy. According to Reliance Industries, the retailer had 20,160 stores at the end of FY2025-26, while its registered customer base increased to 387 million. The company recorded more than 1.9 billion customer transactions during the financial year.

Reliance Retail’s overall value of sales and services reached ₹3,71,085 crore in FY2025-26, compared with ₹3,30,943 crore in the previous year, representing a 12.1% increase. Revenue from operations rose 12.8% to ₹3,28,202 crore, while EBITDA increased 7.7% to ₹27,034 crore.

JioMart has become an important component of this digital strategy. The platform is expanding its product categories and hyperlocal fulfilment capabilities, while Reliance is also using its store network and supply-chain infrastructure to support faster deliveries.

The company reported that JioMart’s digital transactions increased 46% year-on-year in the first quarter of FY2026-27, significantly faster than the company’s 12% revenue growth during the quarter. The increase was driven partly by higher grocery orders, which generally have lower average transaction values.

Reliance Retail is also focusing on merchant-led commerce. Its New Commerce initiative works with a large network of kirana stores, providing digital ordering, payments, working-capital solutions and supply-chain access. The strategy allows the company to combine organised retail infrastructure with India’s highly fragmented neighbourhood retail network.

JioMart’s hyperlocal network has expanded across more than 5,100 pincodes and over 1,200 cities, supported by more than 3,100 stores, according to Reliance’s FY2025-26 annual report.
