New Delhi, September 19: Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, while addressing the 20th Rozgar Mela in Chennai today, congratulated the newly appointed government employees and their families, calling upon the recruits to approach public service with integrity, empathy, responsibility and a commitment to continuous learning.
Dr. Pemmasani said the occasion marked an important milestone not only for the recruits but also for their families, who had supported them through examinations and the recruitment process. He said securing a government job remains an important aspiration for many young Indians and congratulated the recruits selected from among more than 51,000 candidates receiving appointment letters across the country under the nationwide Rozgar Mela.
With the completion of the 20th Rozgar Mela, around 12.75 lakh young people will have received appointment letters through the initiative.
Sharing his journey from a modest family background to becoming a doctor, entrepreneur and public representative, Dr. Pemmasani emphasised the importance of learning, adaptability and perseverance. He encouraged the newly appointed employees to seek guidance from experienced colleagues and make effective use of digital learning resources and AI tools.
The Union Minister of State urged the recruits to remain open to new postings, languages, cultures and working environments, saying that exposure to unfamiliar surroundings can help build confidence and broaden their understanding of the country.
Emphasising the human dimension of government service, Dr. Pemmasani said employees should not allow routine administrative work to diminish their sense of purpose. A government employee may view a file as routine administrative work, but for the citizen concerned, it could represent an important aspect of their life.
The Union MoS urged the recruits to question established practices, verify facts and avoid blindly following processes simply because they are widely followed. “Just because 100 people do the wrong thing, that doesn’t make it a right thing,” he said, emphasising the importance of integrity and sound decision-making.
Speaking about India’s transformation since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi , Dr. Pemmasani highlighted the changes in governance, infrastructure, technology and public service delivery. He said India’s mobile manufacturing ecosystem has expanded from just two manufacturing units in 2014-15 to around 300 today. Mobile phone production has also increased substantially.
The Minister of State said the transformation is equally visible in infrastructure. The national highway network has expanded significantly. Railway electrification has progressed rapidly. Vande Bharat trains and railway station redevelopment are improving connectivity and passenger experience.
He also highlighted the growth of indigenous defence production. India’s defence exports have increased from around ₹600 crore in 2013-14 to around ₹30,000 crore in 2025-26.
Furthermore, the Minister of State encouraged the young employees to identify challenges faced by citizens and explore solutions through technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Towards the conclusion of his address, Dr. Pemmasani outlined three things for the recruits to remember throughout their careers: the citizen, their families and their younger selves. He said these principles would help them remain grounded and committed to public service. Looking towards 2047, he urged the newly appointed employees to continuously reflect on whether they are living up to the trust placed in them by the country, their families and the citizens they serve.
