Pitra Paksha is one of the most spiritually significant periods in the Hindu tradition—a sacred fortnight dedicated to remembering, honouring and expressing gratitude towards our ancestors. It is a time for Shraddha, Tarpan, charity and prayers for the peace and spiritual well-being of departed family members .The essence of includes acknowledging the sacrifices, values and legacy passed down through generations.
Simple Ways to Honour Your Ancestors
1. Perform Tarpan :
Offer water in South West direction with black sesame seeds remembering your ancestors.
2. Offer food in their memory:
Prepare sattvic food and traditionally offer it as part of Shraddha rituals to cows, birds or Brahmins and seek their blessings. If you don’t know Shraddha dates of your Ancestors ,do it on Amavasya Tithi.
3. Practise charity:
Donate food, clothes or other essentials to those in need.
4. Light a Diya :
Light Diya and spend a few moments remembering your ancestors and seek their blessings.
5. Release resentment and practice forgiveness:
Pitra Paksha can also be used as a period of inner healing. Consciously releasing anger, unresolved emotions and removing Karmic blockages and can help create a sense of peace within oneself.
6. Remember their positive legacy:
Instead of focusing only on loss, remembering the virtues, teachings and good memories associated with your ancestors.
