Kumar Mangalam Birla pushes for new growth as the Aditya Birla Group expands across key sectors

New Delhi: Kumar Mangalam Birla is leading the Aditya Birla Group into a new phase of growth as the conglomerate expands its presence in infrastructure, manufacturing, financial services, renewable energy and consumer-focused businesses.

The group has built a strong position across several major industries. Its companies operate in cement, metals, chemicals, textiles, financial services, telecommunications and retail. As India’s economy grows and infrastructure investment increases, the group is focusing on new businesses that can support long-term expansion.

Birla has described India as one of the few major economies with strong and durable growth opportunities. He has linked this growth to factors such as a young population, rising consumption, infrastructure development and the increasing formalisation of businesses.

One of the group’s major growth areas is the construction and building-materials sector. UltraTech Cement remains a key business and has expanded its production capacity through new plants and acquisitions. India’s construction sector contributes around 8% to 9% of the country’s GDP, creating strong demand for cement and related products.

The group has also entered the paints industry through Birla Opus. The business is competing with established companies in a market supported by housing development, urban growth and rising consumer spending. Building a new national brand requires major investment in manufacturing, distribution and marketing, but the group believes its existing presence in construction materials can create long-term advantages.

Another new business is Birla Pivot, a digital business-to-business platform focused on construction materials. The platform aims to improve how contractors, builders and businesses purchase products by offering technology-based access to suppliers and services.

Renewable energy is also becoming an important part of the group’s future strategy. In late 2025, Global Infrastructure Partners, part of BlackRock, announced plans to invest up to ₹3,000 crore in Aditya Birla Renewables. The investment is expected to support the company’s expansion and strengthen its role in India’s clean-energy transition.
