New Delhi: Samsung released some more info regarding its much-anticipated smart glasses and explained the reason they’ll be superior to Meta’s popular smart glasses. The company is prioritizing wearable tech features like comfort, battery life, privacy, and more advanced AI.
The smart glasses are part of a collaboration between Samsung and Google, and will be built for the Android XR platform. Google will now introduce a new feature for its Gemini AI assistant in Google, which they’ve included with their latest performance-boosting update. The new feature announcement will allow Google’s Gemini AI assistant to be used with voice commands, where users can voice a query and get directions, language translation, send messages, and more for daily tasks. There may be even more uses that will be enabled in day-to-day life because of this deep collaboration with Google’s tools, the company says.
Samsung has a major promise on battery life. The company says that the smart glasses provide up to 9 hours of battery life. This is longer than the battery capabilities of many smart glasses on the market, which are generally limited in their battery life and are therefore less optimal for all-day use.
Samsung is also emphasizing user privacy. A clever indicator light on the LED screen in the smart glasses will illuminate when the camera is operating. Once the recording is tampered with by someone else, the glasses automatically go into stop mode. This feature is to prevent hidden shots and also to make others at the wearer’s location more confident in the timing of the camera recording. Samsung also has implemented other security updates to safeguard users from hacker attempts.
Alongside Design, Samsung’s strategy has more to do with the consideration it gives to the human factor. The company has also worked with fashion companies Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to produce cool eyewear disguised as common eyewear and accessories. Smart Glasses will be popular with users every day if they are light, comfortable, and stylish, which is something Samsung thinks is essential.
Samsung has introduced some major specs, but has yet to provide the official release date and price for the smart glasses.
