New Delhi: One of the third party data centre facilities at Google Cloud has suffered a disruption in the network, impacting businesses and users who depend on Google’s cloud platform. The incident caused internet services and connectivity delays with some customers in several cities.
Google Cloud says the fire led to an emergency power shutdown at the facility. This caused a network point of presence (PoP) near Delhi to become cut off, and decreased the amount of network capacity in this area. This led to occasional service outages and increased customer service latencies.
The Delhi effect was not confined to just the streets of Delhi. The network traffic of several cities, including Mumbai, Chennai and the surrounding areas was also impacted, Google stated. Access to cloud-based applications, websites, and online services was delayed for Users relying on Google Cloud’s infrastructure.
Google Cloud is one of the top cloud service providers in the world, and it’s a player to watch, especially when it comes to competing with big boys like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. It has become the backbone of thousands of businesses, providing storage power for data, application power for business, and relationships for websites and AI power. Its services are being used by thousands of enterprise for storage, application, website and artificial intelligence. In view of this, any event causing an interruption will have a significant impact on numerous users and electronic services.
The company said at this point a quick-fix was not possible, but engineers are doing and will be doing their best to restore normal operations. Google also indicated it was considering other measures to manage traffic through the recovery process, “to minimize the customer experience impact and network stability.”
The devastating fire sparked a host of problems with service but Google did not state when the incident took place. The company also did not list how much there was of potential property damage or injury connected with the incident.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the vital role played by data centres in modern times of digital economy. Cloud systems are essential for businesses today, especially for their day-to-day operations, customer service, communication, data storage, and more. Disruptions at one location will impact a number of regions and thousands of users.
With restoration going on, organisations that deploy Google Cloud are waiting for the company to update them. Businesses run by Google Cloud are keeping their eye on the updates provided by Google. The incident is a reminder of the need to use back-up or disaster recovery systems to minimize the effect of unforeseen infrastructures failures.
