New Delhi: WhatsApp is preparing to expand the role of Meta AI inside the messaging platform. After unveiling a dedicated Meta AI tab in WhatsApp’s navigation bar, WhatsApp is now reported to be experimenting with a feature that enables users to share documents with Meta AI for analysis. This feature is now available to a limited number of beta testers, but it signals Meta’s broader push to extend the capabilities of its AI assistant and compete with rivals such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
It is redesigning how users access Meta AI within WhatsApp. Rather than relying on a floating shortcut inside the Chats tab, WhatsApp is now unveiling a dedicated navigation tab for AI-powered features. The latest tab acts as a centralized hub for Meta AI interactions.
Users can communicate with the chatbot by using text or voice, generate images, and revisit previous AI conversations from a single interface, by adding suggested prompts and shortcuts to help users discover different ways to interact with the assistant.
Meta AI has been restricted in its interaction methods. While the users might has already communicate with the chatbot via text, voice notes, images, videos, and even voice calls, the platform also lacks some capabilities that competing AI assistants already provide.
This often pushes users towards alternatives like ChatGPT or Gemini, especially when they need features such as document uploads and deeper content analysis. In the latest beta upgrade, WhatsApp appears to be addressing that gap by allowing document sharing directly within the chats with Meta AI.
This document sharing feature for Meta AI is currently rolling out to select beta testers via the latest WhatsApp beta upgrades for Android through the Google Play Store. While the feature is still limited and not widely available, during testing, it was also spotted on some iPhones, indicating that WhatsApp might have started a gradual rollout across platforms.
