Surat: While Gujarat is moving towards sustainable development under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, in the exhibition organized under the ‘Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference’ organized in Surat till May 5th A ‘Sustainability Hill’ has been set up to showcase the integration of the textile industry with environmental protection.
This special installation has been prepared by the Textile and Apparel Development Association (TAADA) to promote an environmentally friendly approach in the textile and energy sector. In which the entire journey of ‘Farm to Fiber, Fiber to Fabric and Fabric to Fashion and Fashion to Foreign’ has been presented with sustainability criteria. Visitors here are getting information about the entire chain of textiles processed from fiber and gaining a deeper understanding of the global contribution of Surat’s textile industry.
Not only cotton, but also other materials like bamboo, hemp, flax, cotton flax, banana, Himalayan grass can be processed into valuable fabrics by making fibers. This understanding is being given through stalls. To preserve the environment, the global fashion industry is now shifting towards natural alternatives like best-fit waste and fabrics made from it instead of synthetics.
This installation has been set up by the Textile and Apparel Development Association (TAADA) in a vast area of 3,000 square feet. In which the 5F chain has been presented with sustainability criteria.
TAADA Chairman Ajoy Bhattacharya said that Surat is now moving towards becoming a global leader not only in dyeing and processing of textiles, but also in the garment sector. Fabrics made from grass, bamboo and plants are environmentally friendly and can also become a new source of income for farmers. The main objective of this theme is to establish Gujarat as a global textile hub as well as a leading state in the field of environmental protection and industrial innovation, so that textile industrialists gain an in-depth understanding and move towards sustainability development, said Bhattacharya.
He further said that the demand for organic and natural fabrics is now increasing in the global market. If the mills of Surat do research in this field, they can compete with international brands. Banana is cultivated on a large scale in South Gujarat, so apart from cotton, the farmers of South Gujarat will earn additional income and become prosperous by making fabrics from banana leaves and its waste as well as bamboo. TAADA is active in training industrialists for the production of such eco-friendly fabrics, as well as providing guidance and platform.
The installation is mainly divided into two sections:
1) Fabric Vertical, which easily explains the entire process of turning raw fiber into yarn, then fabric and finally into a finished garment. Here, an understanding of the new generation of eco-friendly fabrics and production methods is given.
2) Energy Vertical, prepared in collaboration with Goldi Solar, highlights the importance of renewable energy. The use of solar power in textile manufacturing, solar-based applications and green mobility concepts will inspire the industry to shift towards clean energy.
Natural and Eco-Friendly Fibers
1) Bamboo: Bamboo fabric is extremely soft, anti-bacterial and has the ability to absorb sweat. This can become a big industry as bamboo production is especially good in South Gujarat.
2) Banana: Silky, shiny and strong fabric is made from the fiber extracted from the banana trunk. Banana is cultivated on a large scale in Surat and Tapi districts, so this is the best option for Waste to Wealth.
3) Hemp: This fabric is extremely durable and cooling. It absorbs sweat from the body. It requires very little water and pesticides to grow.
4) Himalayan Grass: Strong and premium quality fabric is made from the fiber of nettle grass found in the Himalayan regions.
Flax (Linen) and Mixed Fabrics Flax (Flax)
1) Flax (Linen): This plant is used to make ‘Linen’, which is the most preferred fabric for summer.
2) Cotton Flax: This fabric is made by mixing cotton and flax, which gives a look like linen but is cheaper, durable and easy to maintain.
Vibrant Gujarat Conference has ended. But Vibrant Exhibition will be open till 5th. An informative and guiding platform for visitors, industrialists and young entrepreneurs The doubt is being proven.
