New Delhi: Deccan Gold Mines has started production and pre-commissioning trails at its Soltan Sary gold mine in Kyrgyzstan, India’s first overseas gold mine. Located in the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan, the mine is being developed by Deccan Gold’s overseas arm and is expected to strengthen India’s overseas mineral assets, with the hope of securing supplies domestically.
The company is targeting the processing of up to 30,000 tonnes of ore during the trials, which will include the production of saleable concentrate or dore bars. The Soltan Sory gold mine is estimated to hold about 4.65 million tonnes of gold-bearing ore, making it a strategically important asset for Deccan Gold’s international expansion.
“The start of pre-commissioning trials at Altyn Tor represents more than an operational milestone – it reflects India’s growing capability to participate meaningfully in the global gold mining value chain. As the first Indian mining company to establish a presence in Kyrgyzstan, we view this project as a bridge between two resource-rich nations, built on technical excellence, mutual trust, and long-term value creation.” Dr. Hanuma Prasad Modali, Managing Director, Deccan Gold Mines, said in a press release.
“Altyn Tor demonstrates how responsible mining, cross-border collaboration, and disciplined execution can come together to create sustainable outcomes. As we advance toward commissioning, our focus remains on building a globally credible mining asset that strengthens India’s international footprint while delivering enduring benefits to local communities in Kyrgyzstan”, he added.
