New Delhi: Nothing has officially announced and confirmed that the public rollout of its Android 16-based update, Nothing OS 4.0, will begin this Friday, which means today. This comes after the users had to wait months for the latest release, which the company aims to make a core part of its AI-focused strategy. Nothing initially allowed users to test the update through the Nothing OS 4.0 open beta, which started in late October. The company has now announced the official start date on the Nothing Community Site, thanking beta testers for their feedback and stating that, “We know you have been eagerly waiting for the general release and want to say a special thank you to our Beta testers for providing valuable thoughts and feedback. The wait is nearly over.”

The company refers to the Android 16 update as Flow, and the Nothing OS 4.0 status update includes the teaser: let your phone bring Flow to your life. However, Nothing has yet to confirm which phones will get the stable Nothing OS 4.0 update, but the supported devices in the open beta give an early idea. The Android 16 open beta supports the Nothing Phone 2 and 3, as well as the Nothing Phone 2a and 2a Plus, and the Nothing Phone 3a and 3a Pro. These models are likely to receive the Nothing OS 4.0 at the release.
The stable version may later add support for newer devices, such as the Nothing Phone 3a Lite. It is also expected to roll out to smartphones under Nothing’s CMF sub-brand, which uses Nothing OS and is still set to get claimed Android OS updates. The usual Android 16 updates, Nothing OS 4.0 introduces several new features, including AI elements. The update adds an extra Dark Mode, Pop-Up View for floating windows, a 2×2 quick setting title, and two additional lock screen clock styles. It also supports Essential Applications user-created widgets that can be shared on the Nothing Playground portal.
The Nothing Phone 2 series will receive a Stretch camera feature, which is already available on the Nothing Phone 3. Nothing OS 4.0 also includes the debated Lock Glimpse feature, which initially claimed to surface timely updates and valuable content designed to enhance your experience. Nothing has confirmed that the Lock Glimpse feature is off by default on the Nothing Phone 3a series. The stable release of Nothing OS 4.0 is expected to reach the supported Nothing Phone by later this week.
